| When Larry Hughes left the Washington Wizards, it looked like the Cleveland Cavaliers were getting the perfect complement for LeBron James in Cleveland. That didn't quite work out, however, since Hughes was forced to play an unfamiliar sort of game as a spot-up shooter instead of an attacker and slasher. With his new team, the Chicago Bulls, he's looking to get back to old form. He talked about his rejuvenation in the Windy City recently in a exclusive interview with HOOPSWORLD's Joel Brigham.

| With the University of Kansas thriving in the NCAA tournament, it's a fine coincidence that Bulls forward and former Jayhawk Drew Gooden has been playing so well for his own team. Since coming over from the Cleveland Cavaliers at the trading deadline, Gooden has seen his numbers improve quite a bit, and were it not for an abdominal strain he'd still be out there continuing to hit his stride.

Would D'Antoni fit in either place? Are those teams ready for his style of play? Read on!

| Sources have told HOOPSWORLD that the Chicago Bulls have made overtures to recently fired Mavericks head coach Avery Johnson, which doesn't come as much of a surprise after newspaper reports this week that he would be one of John Paxson's top options to replace Scott Skiles and Jim Boylan, who have rejoined together in Milwaukee.

| With Coach Mike D'Antoni's impending leaving of Phoenix it seems his next destination will be either with the Chicago Bulls or the New York Knicks. While the Knicks seem to have the cash to bring him in (reportedly offering $30 million), it doesn't seem too likely this comes down to a money issue for him.

| The entire time sources were humming about the Knicks making overtures for Mike D'Antoni, nobody really believed he was going to pass up on the Bulls for a horrible situation in New York. Chicago has young legs and players ready for some serious offensive improvement, and the Knicks have Zach Randolph and Eddy Curry.

| Landing the top pick in the 2008 NBA Draft has put the Chicago Bulls in an enviable position. They can keep the pick, draft the next great NBA point guard, and bring in a coach who can help mold him into such. They can trade the pick and almost choose the next All-Star from the likes of Carmelo Anthony, Allen Iverson, anyone on the Knicks' roster, or a plethora of others across the league. Either way, it's a position any general manager would like to be in.

Spurned by Mike D'Antoni, chastised by fans and local media, and marred by ugly contract negotiations with young players, it seemed like it couldn't get any worse.

| When Allen Iverson was traded to the Denver Nuggets in December of 2006, it provoked a rather dichotomous response. The vast majority of NBA fans either pronounced the Nuggets true championship contenders or predicted doom-and-gloom for an Iverson-Carmelo Anthony tandem, hinting there weren't enough basketballs in Denver for the two of them to coexist.

| Losing out on Mike D'Antoni was sort of the exclamation point on the sad, conservative new era of the Chicago Bulls. John Paxson, the team's most recent GM and successor to the Jordan Era's Jerry Krause, has done absolutely everything the safe way since taking over the team in 2003, and that's starting to hurt the organization.

| For his first major media availability since the Chicago Bulls won the first overall pick in the draft lottery last week, Derrick Rose was poised, collected, and just a little bit coy. Beat guys from the Chicago and Miami papers rained down on Rose at Orlando's pre-draft camp on Thursday, and despite some pretty tough questions he didn't give the sharks too much to feed on.

| You knew all along that Yi Jianlian would wind up in California, right? The large Chinese population in the San Francisco area was the focus of China's desire when they decided to allow Yi to come to America, though then-GM of the Bucks Larry Harris did a great job of selling them on Milwaukee. Though Yi was arguably the best pick left on the board when the Bucks went on the clock with the #6 overall pick last summer, his failure to perform at the level many hoped he would achieve had something to do with the fact that Harris is no longer the GM.

| Ron-Ron And The Knicks: Leave it to the New York papers to run a story suggesting Ron Artest would sign with the Knicks. They even filed the story under a headline of "Ron Artest Has Eyes On Knicks Stint" but Artest has one year left on his deal with the Kings at $7.4 million and an Early Termination option. Ron and his agent have said Ron does not plan to use that option, but in typical Ron-Ron fashion he adds fuel to the fire by talking to reporters. When Ron was asked if he wanted to play for the Knicks his answer was: "Who wouldn't want to?" according to the New York Daily News. "I'm not going to talk about that stuff till July 1. I don't play for the money, I play for the love." League sources, when asked to comment on this story, simply said, "Its Ron being Ron…" Kings sources were asked about Ron's status last week, and said almost the same thing. The odds Ron Artest does opt out likely remain 50/50. He has until June 30th to decide, but honestly - does anyone think Donnie Walsh lets Ron Artest into the building in a Knicks jersey? Sure he traded for Ron from Chicago, but he was also more than eager to send him to Sacramento for a stack of T-shirts. If anyone knows that Ron is a few sandwiches short of a picnic, it's Donnie Walsh. I am filing this one under – "Its Ron being Ron."

| Setting Shaun's Value: Shaun Livingston will play in the NBA again, maybe as early as next season, but he may not play for the LA Clippers. The Clippers are opting not to extend a qualifying offer (worth just over $5 million), meaning Shaun Livingston will become an unrestricted free agent July 1st. This is actually smart business by the Clippers. League sources that are familiar with the type and severity of Shaun's knee injury have often referred to it as the worst sports related knee injury they have ever seen. Most question how effective Shaun will be with that knee, and how often will problems with that knee surface. The surgery was a success, the rehab was a success too, but how limiting will it become, especially in the short term? The Clippers can still make an offer to Shaun, and likely will once the market is set for him. Is there a team willing to shower money on Shaun knowing he is a limited offensive player with a bad knee? Shaun is not a great shooter and scorer, a lot of his ability comes from his incredible court vision, awareness and his athletic quickness in getting into the paint. That quickness will be affected by the knee and it may be a couple of seasons before he learns to adjust his game to what his surgically repaired body will allow. The Clippers are being smart business wise, they know firsthand how severe Shaun's knee really is, and they are not going to over pay for it.

| Moving Varejao?: The Cleveland Cavaliers have been entertaining trade scenarios involving Anderson Varejao. Word is at least 4 teams have open discussions involving Varejao and the Cavs' draft pick at #19. The Cavs have had at least one offer vetoed by Varejao, who has the right to refuse any trade until December 5th. The belief is Varejao is open to the idea of being traded to a playoff team where he can get meaningful minutes as a starter; he is not open to the idea of being traded to a sub-standard team, just to get minutes. The Cavs have been looking at a number of scenarios, most involving moving off a contract to create a little more breathing room under the luxury tax threshold. There is apparently a ton of interest in the Cavs' pick at #19 so that's the bait in most of these discussions.

| Draft Movement : With the 2008 NBA Draft next Thursday teams are starting to project out who is going where and the talks of trades involving top picks is flowing. There are a few known items at this point; The Chicago Bulls will be taking Derrick Rose according to sources close to the situation. That could change, but as of today the Bulls and Rose seem like a lock. Michael Beasley will get selected #2 overall by Miami - no huge surprise – the question remains where will he ultimately land? There are continued reports that Memphis will look to trade for Beasley if they can nab OJ Mayo at the #5 spot, although more and more NBA insiders are saying Mayo has become the chip to grab in the trade market. Minnesota could grab him at number 3 and look to swap down the line and look to extract more than a player out of Mayo. Seattle is dialed in on Jerryd Bayless, unless someone jumps the gun. Seattle is in love with Bayless' aggressive style and tenacity, and Kevin Durant is campaigning for Bayless to be the pick. Chris Douglas-Roberts' stock has taken a tumble, most expected him to be the third swing guard off the board and he may fall to the fourth or fifth two-guard spot. Courtney Lee has become the darling of the swing guard class; Lee has an amazing skill set and has done very well in individual workouts. His professionalism has been the big comment most teams have - they knew he had the talent, it's the other things that have impressed teams. There are several draft picks in play: The Knicks are shopping the #6 pick, The Pistons are shopping their pick at #29 and more than a dozen teams are jockeying to move around in the second round of the draft. Thursday should be very interesting, don't fall in love with any one selection because there will be some trades.

| Every indication out of Chicago is that the Bulls are about to make Derrick Rose their point guard of the future... and even the present. With that in mind, it's clear that they will be looking to unload Kirk Hinrich, their current floor leader, to make room for Rose. Given the large number of NBA teams that are currently in need of help at the point, moving Hinrich shouldn't be a huge task.
